Hösėg is born with the purpose of changing the world by improving someone else's life, and someone else's, and someone else's… And when we talk about life, we refer to its greater meaning: biodiversity.

2020 has been a particular year, we had to go through a pandemic that no one could ever imagine. It forced us to make a pause, which many of us used to reflect on our present and future with a more sustainable view.

Up to this day, almost every person has lost someone really close or someone they know due to this pandemic. In hösėg we want to pay homage to those persons, because we believe that life returns in different ways and expressions.

That is why we want to create, with your help, memorial forests that invite to reflect on and celebrate the rebirth of life; forests of more than 90 thousand trees*, in which every tree will represent the life of each person that lost the battle against COVID-19.

*The 90 thousand trees are an estimate based on SINADEF data (considering fatalities above 2018 and 2019 average vs 2020).

WHY A FOREST MEMORIAL?

Trees are maybe the best solution to mitigate climate change impact. They function as natural collectors of carbon emissions, they protect and restore wildlife, they capture and generate water reserves and also, if handled in the right way, they can be an economic source for Andean communities.

Some local native species here in Peru are:

• Polylepis racemosa (Queñua)
• Podocarpus glomeratus (Intimpa)
• Alnus acuminata (Aliso)
• Escallonia resinosa (Chachacomo)
• Sambucus peruviana (Sauco)

WHERE?

PAMURI, PAMPAS-HUANCAVELICA The Canseco family has a very long history with Pampas valley in Huancavelica. They have gone through a lot of difficulties such as terrorism, maintaining their conviction to protect and recover natural habitats in collaboration with the local communities.

HUILLOC, VILCANOTA- CUSCO ECOAN works to preserve endangered species and natural habitats. As part of their work, they have reforestation projects in order to restore local native species. Currently, they are working on Vilcanota mountains with more than 24 communities committed with the recovery of their ecosystems.

In collaboration with Global Forest Generation (www.globalforestgeneration.org) y Ecoan (www.ecoanperu.org) we will plant the memorial forests Renacer Pampas in Pamuri with 20 thousand trees, and Renacer Huilloc in Vilcanota with 70 thousand trees. Memorials where life will be reborn and where we will pay tribute along with nature, having the Canseco family, Global Forest Generation, ECOAN and hösėg as their guardians.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

As part of this project, we launched our first neck gaiter collection, inspired in Peruvian nature reserves. This product, designed and produced 100% in Peru, is super functional: unisex, breathable and elastic fabric, with more than 12 different ways to use it. For every neck gaiter you buy, you will be helping us to plant a tree in our memorial forests.

We know this will be a long ride project, but we are convinced that these memorials will honor our relationship as people with our planet and biodiversity, becoming an example of life regeneration and rebirth. We will be planting our seed in order to make sure these woods preserve in time and keep growing.

The product packaging has all the relevant information such as: impact, composition, care instructions, size chart, ways to use and designs.
